A__PART teams up with KITAPOLENG for a day of cultural and dance practice sharing at Potato Head, Bali.

KITAPOLENG was established by Dibal Ranuh and Jasmine Okubo as a multi-arts arena and meeting space. This includes the performance of traditional Balinese dance with a contemporary sensibility, working directly with dancers who are Deaf and reaching out into the Deaf community in Bali.

Javanese-Australian dancer and choreographer, and A_PART founder Juliet Widyasari Burnett along with local Balinese professional dancers engaged with dancers from Bali’s Deaf community, learning one another’s culture and dance practice, and investigating ways to communicate through our bodies. They were accompanied by Bagus Tri Sapurtra, gamelan composer and electronic musician, for an exploration of vibration-heavy sound in dialogue with dance.

Please watch the short film of the work we created below. It was a truly special day of connection and discovery, and a poignant reminder of the extraordinary power of dance and the human body to communicate. Thank you, terima kasih and matur suksma to all participants and volunteers who made the day so memorable.
