Ishvara Devati

Ishvara Devati (she/her) is a Jakarta-based dance artist focused on interdisciplinary exploration in the performing arts. Her practice traces trans woman identity, transhumanism, and the intersections of technology and bodily transformation, through the lenses of queer ecology and postcolonial feminism that unsettle prevailing understandings of nature, the body, and history. The body appears as a living archive and a site of negotiation; where aesthetics intertwine with critique. Through cross-sensory, cross-medium experiences—dance, performance, film, video art, installation—she invites audiences to sense the body as a cultural-ecological landscape and to cross the boundaries of gender and species. Her works have been presented in Indonesia and internationally, including the dance film less than an ounce at Indonesia Bertutur 2024, and the instructional performance Deliberated Weirdness at Festival Avant-Garten, Hamburg (2023), Theater der Welt, Germany (2023), and Theater Spektakel, Switzerland (2023). Her developing work The Synthetics of Hybrid Beings was presented at the Indonesian Dance Festival 2024. Residencies include Invisible Dance – The Body in Friction, Ahmedabad, India (2023); Farm-Lab Exhibition, Tokyo, Japan (2021); ARTEFACT#11 – Dance Nucleus, Singapore (2024); and Experimental Choreographic Program Residency – Performance Space, Australia (2025) with Juliet Widyasari Burnett. International collaborations include the project Bodies of Care with artists from Germany (2021) and CYVASA 2.0 (2025) with Juliet Widyasari Burnett, presented at Temperance Hall in Australia. 

Ishvara is an exchange artist for A_PART’s The Pleiades Project as a collaborator with Juliet Widyasari Burnett on CYVASA 2.0.
